Toyota Tops January New Car Sales Market for 5th Consecutive Year
Toyota Ireland has closed out the month of January as the best-selling car brand in the country – for the fifth consecutive year. Five Toyota models have been named in the top ten best-selling models in January, the Yaris Cross, RAV4, Corolla, Toyota C-HR and Yaris. Toyota sold 5,354 passenger vehicles in January, which was over 1,500 units ahead of the closest competitor.
Toyota’s multi-path approach to carbon neutrality continues to lead the way in sustainable mobility by offering the widest range of electrified models in Ireland. These models, which include Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid, and Battery Electric Vehicles, accounted for 96.2% of Toyota’s passenger car sales in January 2025.
Overall, in Irish car sales, Petrol Hybrid and Petrol Plug-In Hybrid sales had a strong start in January, capturing a combined market share of 39.05%. This outpaced petrol ICE sales, which held a 28.26% market share for the month, a decline of 2.68%. Battery Electric Vehicles market share increased by over 20% (20.30%) to 14.69%.
Drivers are increasingly opting for ‘Best of Both Worlds’ with Petrol Plug-In Hybrids, as their January market share surged by 61.6% to reach 14.16%. Diesel sales decreased by almost 20% (19.97%), confirming the continued demand for low CO2 and NOx emission cars.
January's success would be incomplete without recognising a major milestone for the Toyota C-HR, which surpassed one million sales across Europe and over 20,000 in Ireland. Since launching in 2016, the Toyota C-HR Hybrid has been a landmark model for Toyota, with its sleek and stylish exterior setting a new style benchmark in the European C-SUV segment.
Strengthening Toyota’s position in the electrified* market, the new Toyota C-HR PHEV, boasting an impressive 66 km** electric range, is the ideal choice for drivers who are not yet ready to transition to a full EV but want to make a conscious effort to reduce emissions.
Speaking on the continued success of Toyota’s electrified range, Zoë Bradley, Head of Marketing Communications and Corporate Affairs at Toyota Ireland said: "We are thrilled to once again be Ireland’s top-selling brand for January. This month is the most contested sales period of the year and getting into number one position early is a positive start to the year. With the widest range of electrified vehicles, Toyota’s multi-path approach truly empowers Irish customers with the Power of Choice—whether Hybrid (no plug-in), Plug-in Hybrid, or fully electric—ensuring everyone can make a sustainable choice suited to their lifestyle and charging needs.”
January’s success follows Toyota's exceptional performance in 2024, where the brand secured a 14.5% market share, with six models featuring in the top 15 best-sellers.
